Metal, out of all genres of music, or in fact any other form of art, has the most negative connotations. Those involve social, musical and lyrical aspects of it. In other words, you are pretty much bad ass motherfucker if you listen to metal!

My experience and relation with this music however, is totally different. It is not only the sound, harmonics, expressiveness and emotional significance of the songs and its lyrics. It is the inclusivity, acceptance and unity of music, fans and musicians. In my humble, yet bold opinion, you have to be messed up in your head a little or at least be a very empathetic person to fully appreciate metal. This is one of the biggest misconception of the genre but also men in general. We can only be tough, strong, hateful and vengeful. However, this is simply not the case. If there would exist a pair of glasses we could wear to see into another human’s ‘soul’ we all would be shocked and embarrassed about ourselves. Only to realise how deceiving and unreliable our judgement is. In the meantime, here’s an article, that will widen your perspective on heavy music and its influence: https://www.sciencefocus.com/science/is-heavy-metal-bad-for-your-mental-health/

Did you know there is significantly less suicides during war time than during peace time? Surely war time would be perfect trigger to kill yourself. This doesn’t make sense! However, collectively, as a society we know absolutely nothing about mental state of another person. Worse still, we are getting worse and worse at communicating with one another. What’s on the outside is rarely what’s inside. Especially in present time when one’s opinion of another human being is formed within milliseconds and is prejudiced by the social media influence. Humans are not transparent beings as Malcolm Gladwell proves in his book ‘Talking to Strangers’ which I highly recommend. You need to understand their world to understand them.

Although metal may not give you a purpose in itself to turn your life around, for many, it is a means of catharsis. Metal is not flat, just angry or just screamy. Metal is much more and I invite you to spend some time analysing it. Although men are mentioned here a lot, I am one of them, there is no exclusivity. Like metal, this blog is for all. Enjoy it loudly and irresponsibly! There’s no risk of overdosing, just mind your neighbours!

Born To Be Wild by Steppenwolf (1968)

I like smoke and lightning
Heavy metal thunder
Racin’ with the wind
And the feelin’ that I’m under
Yeah Darlin’ go make it happen
Take the world in a love embrace
Fire all of your guns at once
And explode into space

Like a true nature’s child
We were born, born to be wild
We can climb so high
I never wanna die

Born to be wild
Born to be wild

Horns up! ?
